2022 Cochrane Cup Rugby League - Northern State Final
The 14s Rugby League team contested the Northern State Finals of the statewide Cochrane Cup in Week 3. A report written by Assistant Coach Mr Toohey is written below.
There was always going to be strong competition when you get down to the Northern State finals. Our first game against St Edward’s Central Coast proved that, when they fielded a big mobile team. Our boys took a little bit of time to adjust to the step up and conceded a couple of tries. To their credit they regrouped in the second half though were beaten 24 -10. The second game was equally intense against eventual winners All Saints College, Maitland.
The SJRC team led by captain Darcy Crawley really lifted in a physical game. They were very competitive and only a couple of lapses provided the opposition the opportunity to score two tries and win 12 – 0. Our final game allowed us to finish the day and the competition on a high with a strong 24 -16 victory over O’Connor College, Armidale. Special mention and thanks goes out to Mr Nelson Young, our indigenous trainee, who put in the time and care to mould this team and achieve a great level of success.
