Assistant Principal - Pastoral Care
Attendance
School attendance is foundational for a flourishing young person. We know that the more students attend school, the better their outcomes are during their school years and in their post-schooling lives. By law, all young people must attend school every day until they are 17, unless they are engaged in another educational pursuit. As of 16th March 2023, the NSW Department of Education lists four reasons students might be absent from school:
- being sick or having an infectious disease;
- having an unavoidable medical appointment;
- being required to attend a recognised religious holiday;
- exceptional or urgent family circumstances e.g. attending a funeral.
As a school, we are required to comply with school attendance legislation and must support optimal school attendance for all students within our care, including putting interventions in place when a young person’s school attendance starts to decline. Beyond our legal responsibilities, we are deeply invested in supporting school attendance for all students as a wellbeing measure. Please contact your child’s PC Teacher or Leader of Student Wellbeing if you are experiencing challenges getting your young person to school.
