2024 Cochrane Cup Grand Final Results

In late September, the 14s Cochrane Cup squad travelled to Industree Group Stadium in Gosford to contest the NSW Cochrane Cup Final against St John's College Nowra.

The final was played in conjunction with the NRL National Schools Finals bringing together the top schools in the state in each age division. Kick off was at 11am with the team loudly supported by a bus load of SJRC students.

The two teams appeared evenly matched, trading blows through the middle of the park in the first half. A late intercept try for SJRC sent the team into the half time break ahead 12-10.

Our game plan seemed straightfoward, stay tight in the middle and stay in the grind. It seemed destined to be a game of attrition.

In the second half, the opposition completely changed tactics. In what would turn out to be a master maneuvre, St John's used the width of the park every chance they had. Our compressed defence simply couldn't respond to the speed on the edge as Nowra ran in 4 quick tries. The game finished 12-30.

Congratulations boys on making the grand final and a sincere thank you to coaches Mr Toohey and Mr Sprague for your dedication to the team and Rugby League at the College.
