SJRC News in Brief: Term 2 Week 3 - 17th May 2024

Parent-Teacher Interviews - Years 8, 9 & 10

Monday, 20th May 2024
4:00pm- 7:00pm

Parent-teacher interviews are an important opportunity for parents to discuss the progress of their sons/daughters with teachers and to help formulate strategies to assist their children in their educational journey.

  • As many teachers have a full programme of interviews through the night, I would ask that parents respect the 5-minute time allocation for interviews (if an extended discussion is needed, a separate time should be booked through the College office to see the teacher).
  • Also, I would ask that parents adhere to the allocated time slots – if a teacher appears to be “free” it may be the only break they have all night

Year 7, 11 & 12 Parents have recently had interviews, however, if there is anything you wish to discuss with your child’s class teacher/s, please contact the College. There will be another opportunity for parents of students in Years 7-12 to meet with teachers again on 26th August 2024.

How to book a Parent-Teacher Interview:

All interviews are to be booked via the Compass App.

Further information regarding the evening and the link to book an interview, will be sent out via the Compass App on Monday.

Bookings are now open
and close on Monday, 20th May at 10:00am

We look forward to meeting with you.

Assistant Principal - Learning and Teaching

“Tell Them From Me” Survey

All parents are warmly invited to complete our annual “Tell Them From Me” survey. The survey platform is easy to navigate, with the survey taking around 15 minutes to complete. Students and staff also complete a version of the survey. Data and feedback from the survey responses are analysed to inform decision-making and to shape our school improvement focus. We encourage all parents to please take the time to complete the survey so the feedback is as comprehensive as possible. As parents are such a vital part of our school community and play such a key role in their children’s education, we really value parent voices and want to ensure we capture as many parent experiences of our school as possible. Merits Update

Well_done.png

Congratulations to Oxley 7 - the PC that has achieved the most merits in the first few weeks of Term 2. They were offered a chance to select a track for our bell that would play at each usual bell time on Friday. In true house spirit, they selected Yellow by Coldplay. Congratulations to the students of Oxley 7 on being noticed for the positive approach you take to life and learning in our College community.

Year 12 Retreat

This week, our Year 12 students attended their annual retreat at The Francis Retreat, Bonny Hills. This event is one of the absolute highlights of our calendar.

I was fortunate enough to spend a few hours with the group on Thursday and was impressed by the positivity and openness of everyone present. Within this safe space, it was truly wonderful to see students embrace the opportunity to share openly about their hopes and dreams for the future, reflect on their views of God, and consider where God might be present in their lives. The retreat's activities also gave space for the cohort to strengthen relationships with their peers and the teachers who facilitated the experience.

I wish to express my gratitude to the staff members who left their own loved ones behind for a few days to create one of the most special memories for our Year 12 students.

Living on University

Many thanks to Jonathon Billingham and former St Joseph's Regional College student Tim Kobelke who recently visited our College to speak to interested students in Years 11 and 12 about living at University, specifically in Sydney.

Attendees were urged to consider a range of criteria when selecting their preferred college of residence, including catering, room-type, extra-curricular opportunities, academic mentoring, and more.

Encounter Kick-on’s (Sunday’s after the 5pm Mass)

New Group: Encounter Kick-on’s. Now that we’ve moved the Youth Group to Friday nights, we want to ensure that there is a space for the youth who once could make the Sunday night Encounter, to have fun and fellowship. So, each Sunday after the 5:00pm Youth Mass there will be a large group game and supper for all young people.
