SJRC News in Brief: Term 1 Week 7 - 21st March 2025
Compass Events – Parent Action Required
A reminder to all parents and carers that Compass event notifications require your consent or consent and payment for your child to attend scheduled events throughout the year.
We kindly ask that you respond to these notifications in a timely manner, as we are unable to proceed or finalise event arrangements without your response. Please note that events are only open for a limited window of time, and your prompt action is greatly appreciated.
When responses are delayed, our staff are required to follow up with phone calls and emails, which adds significant pressure to their already busy workloads.
We ask that you please make responding to Compass events a priority to help everything run smoothly for both students and staff.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

World Down Syndrome Day - aka at SJRC - Bella's Day
Today, in support of our Bella, St Joseph's Regional College celebrated and supported both Harmony Day and World Down Syndrome Day.
Harmony Day is a celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Today, at SJRC, students and staff were able to include some colour from their culture in their uniform to show their support.
World Down Syndrome Day is a global awareness day that has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The goal is to help people understand and support those with Down syndrome. The date is significant as the 21st day of the 3rd month represents the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which causes Down syndrome. Find out more about Down Syndrome or show your support by donating at - https://www.worlddownsyndromeday.org/about-wdsd

A prayer from a mother of a child with special needs
Dear God,
I pray my child is embraced for who they are. I pray they are wanted not in spite of their differences, but because of them. May their diversity be celebrated.
I pray teachers and staff have a healthy balance of patience and high expectations because they are capable of much.
God, I pray you open up my child’s mind with readiness to grow. May they learn more about your world, so they can fully embrace the beautiful life you’ve given them.
God, I pray kindness abounds. May it flow steadily from both kids and adults through the classroom, playground, and hallways.
Beyond kindness, beyond inclusion, I pray my child makes a real friend. Because life is hard, disability can be complicated, and we all need someone to lean on.
God, this is my prayer above all, more than academic progress or meeting IEP goals, I pray my child walks into school every day knowing they belong.
Amen

It is that time of year again when we prepare for ANZAC Day. We have a tradition at the College where we support three local community Commemorations. We typically have outstanding attendance from our students.

The three marches and meeting places for our students are as follows:

Notification: Impetigo
The College has been advised that there are several cases of Impetigo within our community.
Impetigo is a bacterial skin infection caused by Streptococcus and/or Staphylococcus bacteria. It is also called 'school sores'. Although it mostly affects pre-school and primary school-aged children, people of all ages can get impetigo. Impetigo causes sores on the skin.
Impetigo is highly infectious and spreads when people directly touch impetigo sores or the fluid from sores and spread the infection via their hands to other parts of their bodies. It also spreads by touching surfaces or objects contaminated by the sores, including clothing, sheets, and towels.

Calling all budding photographers!
As part of the Jubilee Year, the Vatican is promoting an international photography contest, titled: ‘Sport in Motion’. It is for young photographers, professional or amateur, under the age of 25.
There are five categories: sport and hope, sport and family, sport and disability, sport and politics, and sport and ecology.
The winners will be awarded a meeting with the Holy Father, a visit to the Vatican Museums, a workshop in the Osservatore Romano newspaper and their photo will be published internationally.
Do you know a young person - student or teacher - who may be interested in entering this competition?
The deadline to enter is 30 April 2025.
