Year 11 Semester One Award Ceremony
Yesterday was a special occasion for our Year 11 students and their families, as we acknowledged and celebrated their academic success at an awards ceremony.
At the end of the ceremony, we took a moment of gratitude for the network of support that surrounds each of our students. We gave thanks to families and to teachers. It is with dedication and commitment to these young people that they will continue to grow and learn throughout the HSC journey.
My sincere thanks to Mrs Kellie Croft for her organisation of the ceremony. To Charlie Ross and Luke Banks who led us in the Acknowledgement of Country and to Jayde Attkins and Harry Freudenstein who led us in saying the College Prayer, thank you.

Year 10, 11 & 12 Wollotuka Insight Day
On Thursday, 10th June, 16 Year 10, 11 & 12 Indigenous students along with Mrs Tinsey, Mr Bates and Mrs Taylor attended the Newcastle University to attend a program facilitated by the Wollotuka Centre.
This unique program aims to give students the opportunity to attend the University campus and experience tours and faculty visits, where they participate in interactive workshops delivered using strength-based Indigenous pedagogy.
We all had a great day and the students came away having made invaluable connections with university staff both within faculties and the Wollotuka Centre.
It was such a pleasure to take the students down to Newcastle providing them with this wonderful opportunity.

Year 8 Elective Technical Skills students are coming to the end of their elective course. In Term 1, students worked in the metal workshop learning new skills in metal to complete their dustpans. In Term 2, students worked in the timber workshop to construct a lolly dispenser.
Throughout this course, students develop practical skills with tools, materials and processes while working safely, independently and collaboratively on design projects.
Here are some of the students working on their dustpan project.

Parent Library
If you would like to access any of our Parent Library titles, please email Karen or Michelle at pmreg-lib@lism.catholic.edu.au to arrange a loan. Also, if you know of a title that isn't in our Parent Library collection and which would be useful, please let us know so that we can arrange a purchase.
Page Turners Book Club
Page Turners Book Club met last week for some animated discussion, sharing of ideas, and a quick poll. When asked:
Is it was a good idea to persevere with reading a book when the engagement with the story wasn't immediate, the results were:
Yes - 7; No - 3.

Here are some recommendations from those attending Book Club.
Refugee Week
Next week marks Refugee Week. Our Library contains much material about, and by, refugees. It is well-documented that the reading of fiction can increase empathy in the reader, so we hope that the titles in our small display might prompt members of our college community to consider the plight of the refugee/asylum seeker. More information can be found at https://www.refugeeweek.org.au/

The SJRC Athletics Carnival to be held on Tuesday the 13th of July is definitely going ahead. The only change is unfortunateluy no spectatros are allowed on site.
Traditionally this is an excellent day of competition, participation and fingers crossed – great weather. Students compete in Houses for the coveted CC Adams Shield.
Students may wear house colours to and from the College on Athletics Carnival Day.
The day starts immediately after PC with a rotation of six events. Students will move through this rotation in their age groups (age they turn this year). The events are 100m, shot putt, discus, long jump, javelin and 200m. Lunch will be held around 12:45pm. One of the highlights – the 100m finals and relays conclude the competition. Presentation of Age Champions and runners-up as well as Champion House will complete the carnival.
A fundraising sausage sizzle and drink stand will operate all day and is part of the 100m rotation. Students have option to purchase a sausage sandwich ($2) and/or drink ($2) after their 100m race.
The top two competitors in each event will be named in the SJRC Athletics Squad to compete at the Diocesan Carnival on Thursday 12th of August 2021. This carnival is also a selection trial for the Diocesan Athletics Squad to attend the CCC Carnival on Friday the 3rd of September which completes the school pathway.
2021 SJRC Athletics Carnival Program
This is a compulsory day for all students. Jobs will be allocated on the day for sick or injured students – please send a note of explanation in to Mr. Cannon on Tuesday. They earn house points for helping.
If it is raining the morning of the carnival please check our Facebook Page, Twitter feed and website for postponements. Normal day 2 if wet.
Events to be completed before the carnival – 1500m, 800m, 400m, Triple Jump and High Jump for all ages. Please click the link below for an updated house points score and age champion race spreadsheets following our pre-carnival events.

The annual SJRC Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday 13th July (Term 3 Week 1). Due to the size of our College, we are unable to run all events on carnival day. For that reason some of the events are run at the end of Term 2 – they are listed below. All high jump events require parents to provide permission on the official form. All events are optional. Points accumulated will count towards age champion tallies.
All Year 7 & 8 students will be provided with Fosbury Flop (high jump) tuition during sport classes so they are prepared for their high jump event if they choose to enter.

The U/13 and U/15 rugby league teams will both progress to the next round of the state wide Country Cup competition after winning the local region in Week 7. It was a very competitive day of football and both groups showed great commitment to their team and pride in the College to be successful.
15s Team
The U/15’s are to be commended on the way they combined as a unit. They played 4 physical games on the day which meant that many were sore and bruised. However, they maintained strong defense and ran with determination. In their pool they defeated St Paul’s Kempsey 16- 6, Hastings Secondary College 20- 8 and Camden Haven High 18-6. In the final against Macksville High the SJRC U/ 15 not only won a tough game but hopefully gained some lessons about how to play sport and life. Over the 4 games the team only conceded 4 tries which illustrates the way they worked together and the pride they showed in their team and school. It was the extra level of class and skill that enabled the victories particularly with some surging runs and impressive passing that created opportunities to score out wide.
Whilst it was definitely a team effort special mention goes out to
Kayden Jones Moore, Jack Alchin, Clay Atkins, Colbi Hunt, Eli Davies and Riley Bugden.
Hopefully both teams will be able to show similar qualities when they play the winners of the Coffs and Taree regions in the Mid North Coast final in Week 9.
Stop Press: (17th June 2021)
Congratulations to the 15 Boys who won the Regional Final today and now progress to the Northern State Final on the 28th July in Coffs Harbour. Full report to come.
