Year 12 students - Prayer Sponsors

Our prayers are with you.

Prayer sponsor.jpg

Even though the HSC exams don’t officially start until 9th November, we are putting the call out to get some PRAYER POWER behind our Year 12 students in the lead up to, and during, their exams.

Year 12 students in our community have really had a tough and ever-changing environment to deal with over their final two years of school education. They have been tested time and time again on their ability to bounce back with learning swinging from online to face to face and uncertainty on exam formats and commencement dates. The Covid pandemic has built wonderful resilience but these are unprecedented times. All students in our schools have had to cope with this same situation but year 12 has a special rite of passage and the last two years of formal education has some traditional events which are not going to look the same as these young adults were expecting. Their parents and families and school staff have been an amazing support for them.

In previous years we have asked our parish community to be prayer sponsors for our Year 12 students, during exam time only. This year we are asking you to pray for the students over the months leading up to their exams, not just at exam time.

If you are interested in being a prayer sponsor for a student or students at St Joseph's Regional College, please complete the Prayer Sponsors Google form below. A staff member will contact you with a student’s name.

Congratulations to the entrepreneurial Business Studies students who rose to The University of Newcastle Year 11 Business Plan Challenge 2021.

Jayde Jackson, Astrid Fairhurst and Will McCourbrie demonstrated imagination, problem-solving skills and great tenacity to create detailed and comprehensive business plans based on their own original product concepts. The students’ plans encompassed the full gamut, from product design, financial forecasting and marketing strategies.

Despite the additional challenges the students faced during blended learning, Jayde, Astrid and Will collaborated, showing impressive determination and resilience to meet the strict requirements and deadline, competing with thousands of students throughout New South Wales.

Will McCoubrie has been awarded a High Distinction for his business ‘Ever&Ever’ which provides an environmentally sustainable solution to reduce the use of plastics in hair care and home cleaning products.

Jayde and Astrid have been awarded an Outstanding Achievement for their concept ‘Paw Track’, a device for fur parents to track their pets’ physical activity and health through an interactive app.

What a bright future is ahead for these young entrepreneurs!

Year 9 Mathematics

On the last day of Term 3, Mrs Freeman's Year 9 5.3 Maths class had a practical activity where they had to work out the volume of a cheezel. Students were tasked to work out the total volume of all the cheezels in a box and then calculate the leftover space in the whole box. Students found it interesting that no two boxes had the same amount of cheezels. They then went on to calculate the volume of an ice cream cone from the scoop of ice cream that they were given.

An enjoyable lesson was had by all.

This week's Parent Library focus is Steve Biddulph's "Fully human". Steve has a long history of sharing insightful parenting ideas and this book goes a little further in exploring areas of neuroscience - specifically 'supersense' - which can guide us to a more awake and free way of living every minute of our lives.
