2021 Special Award Edition: Term 4 Week 11 - 17th December 2021
2021 Wrap up
On behalf of the St Joseph’s Regional College community, I would like to congratulate the wonderful contributions our students have made in this challenging year of COMMITMENT. As a community, we have been affected by floods, COVID 19 lockdowns and restrictions and many postponements and cancellations of our normal College routines. I commend our staff and our students who have shown resilience and maintained a sense of hope during 2021.
I particularly would like to acknowledge our 2021 Junior Pastoral Care Leaders. These young leaders have had a difficult job this year and you should be justifiably proud of your efforts. Thank you to Mrs Woods and Mr Johnston, who coordinated the junior leaders and supported them throughout the year.

I would also like to take this opportunity to give my sincere thanks to a number of special people who work tirelessly behind the scenes of our College. Firstly, thank you to Mrs Wendy Welsh, Principal’s Assistant of Staff Services and also to Mrs Michelle Reynolds, Principal’s Assistant of Student Services and her dedicated team in the College office. These ladies are an exemplary team, working together and going beyond the call of duty to ensure that all paperwork is professionally completed and all staff are supported in every possible way.
To John Sprague and our maintenance team who keep our College grounds looking superb - thank you.
My sincere thanks also to Mrs Kelly Mooney, our College Finance Secretary who works closely with me to ensure we have the best resources possible here at the College.
This year we sadly farewell some long-standing staff members:
Mr Damien Bennie has been a staff member at SJRC for 27 years and Leader of Learning- Science for 12 years. Mr Bennie is making a move to Yamba and will be teaching at McAuley College, Grafton in 2022. Mr Bennie’s passion for Science and sense of humour will be greatly missed.
Mr Greg Hollis has been a staff member at SJRC from 2003. Mr Hollis decided to have a career change and we were fortunate that he chose HSIE teaching as his new profession. Mr Hollis’ organisation and amazing use of data will be greatly missed as he transitions to retirement. We may be lucky enough to see him as a casual teacher in 2022.
To our long term staff member, 33 years, in fact, Mrs Karen Bale who is taking Long Service leave, we wish you all the very best and we know you will enjoy the next 12 months exploring.
The trainees moving on to the next phases of their lives are Harry Amon, Max Roods, Cameron Hunt, Kay Loma and Matthew Strumolo (YMO): thank you for your energy and enthusiasm.
To our staff members who are finishing contracts and moving on next year, be assured of our St Joseph’s Regional College blessings.
I would like to extend best wishes to the parents of our Year 10 families, to those families who will see their sons and daughters embark on a new educational journey at Newman Senior Technical College in 2022, and also to other students who are leaving us to pursue other ventures. To Year 12 families, thank you for your loyalty and support for our wonderful College, and we wish you and our leaving students well in the future.
On behalf of the College community, I once again thank you for being part of our family and at this time, I extend my warm congratulations to all our end of year award winners.
I wish you all a very safe, holy and joyful Christmas season.

A Christmas Prayer
Lord, we ask You to grant us peace. Peace in our homes, peace in our churches and peace in our hearts, especially when it feels like the world all around us spins out of control.
Help us stay focused on You, this Christmastime and always. Thank You for loving the whole world enough to send the greatest gift, Your Son, so we might truly have a very merry Christmas, even in a not-so-merry kind of world. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
I wish all families a safe and restful break. May your homes be filled with the joy and blessings of Christmas.
Mrs Tanya Daley
Acting Principal
Last Friday evening we came together to celebrate and farewell our Year 12 2021 graduands. Congratulations to Ms Heidi Flanagan, Leader of Pastoral Care-Year 12, and the wonderful team of staff who worked so hard to ensure our Year 12 students and families celebrated in style.

Coaching Staff
It is impossible to run a good sporting program without dedicated staff to coach and take teams to competitions; quite often (because of the size of our Diocese) this means travelling long distances and being away from family overnight. I sincerely thank the 36 staff members who have coached sporting teams this year and therefore made it possible for students to compete.

11th December 2021
Congratulations to Phoebe Bentley (Yr 12) who received a rare NSW Catholic Combined Colleges Blue Award after an outstanding year in the pool. The "Blue" is the highest award an athlete can receive at NSWCCC Level and is normally presented at a dinner in Sydney. Unfortunately due to COVID, this was not possible in 2021. Phoebe was instead bestowed her award last night at the Yr 12 Graduation.
Along with the award is a summary of Phoebe's achievements - it reads:
"Phoebe has a long and impressive involvement with representative swimming.
Phoebe has represented NSWCCC in swimming from 2016 - 2021. In 2021 at the NSW All Schools Swimming Championships, Phoebe medalled in 3 of her 6 events resulting in selection in the 2021 NSW All Schools Merit Swimming Team. Phoebe has been part of the CSNSW Sport Pathway since primary school having represented Polding in swimming 2013 - 2015 and Lismore Diocese in Cross Country in 2019.
Since 2020 Phoebe has been a member of the Swimming NSW Sharks Swim Squad and qualified for the Australian Olympic Trials this year.
Phoebe is an outstanding student in all respects. She is an excellent role model for younger students displaying a positive attitude, enthusiastic approach and humble nature all facets of college life. Phoebe not only excelled in swimming of which she was school age championfrom 2016 - 2021, she was also the age champion in cross country in those years.
Phoebe was awarded the College Senior Sportsperson of the Year in 2021. Phoebe has fulfilled her role of House Captain 2020/2021 with enthusiasm and dedication. She actively contributes to all aspects of the college.
Phoebe is a most worthy recipient of this 2021 NSWCCC Blue Award for Swimming."
