Hastings Education Fund (HEF) Commencing Grant Recipients for 2023
The Hastings Education Fund (HEF) provides financial assistance and support to local youth to help them achieve their post high school education, training and vocational aspirations. HEF recognises that the cost for regional students pursuing their post high school goals is often much greater than those of their metropolitan counterparts and that these costs can be prohibitive.
With this in mind, HEF fundraises throughout the year and accepts donations from local residents and businesses in order to provide financial grants to students who need an extra helping hand. The funds come directly from the local community – none of it is government funded. It’s a way for the community and businesses to say “we believe in you and want to support your goals.”
The HEF Annual Gala Presentation was held on Monday evening 5th December 2022 at Cassegrain Winery Barrel Room where the students’ success was celebrated and the sponsors were thanked for their generosity.
Congratulations to the following SJRC students who were the successful applicants of a HEF Commencing Grant for university study in 2023:

He has recently completed his double degree in a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Taronga Wildlife Conservation) at the University of Sydney, and was given the honour of speaking on behalf of all award recipients and commented on the strong community support and gratitude that all recipients have felt in being part of the scholarship program.

Year 10 Charles Sturt University (CSU) Discovery Day
On Thursday, 8th December Year 10 were very fortunate to be invited to CSU to participate in a university Discovery Day. They were involved in exploring activities in the Allied Health and Business areas, toured all university facilities including accommodation and enjoyed being a university student for the day. They had the luxury of using the classrooms, gymnasium and sporting areas and most importantly the day was about discovery and inspiration, to focus on their future journeys with new eyes and wonder at what possibilities can lie ahead for them.
A massive thank you to Matthew Griffin, the Marketing Coordinator, Student Recruitment & Engagement (Port Macquarie) and his team for making the day so worthwhile……. and also providing 220 students with a fantastic lunch!
Year 10 were exemplary ambassadors for our college and participated with enthusiasm in all activities. We look forward to working with you as our senior students over the next two years.
