Music

Opportunities
At St Joseph’s Regional College, there are many opportunities for students to be involved in a music ensemble. The goal of the program is to provide an enjoyable and supportive environment to learn about music through performance and working together to achieve group goals.

Rehearsals take place before and after school, during lunch breaks and on a rotational basis through some class time.

Most of the ensembles at St Joseph’s Regional College are free. Many are open to all students, while some advanced ensembles require an audition. All these ensembles support the Music Elective classroom program.

Performance Opportunities
At St Joseph’s Regional College, the Co-Curricular Music Program not only supports our HSC Music students through their senior studies, it also provides enrichment to students through extra performances in the parish and community.

Ensembles participate in local eisteddfods, community festivals and events, provide music for Mass, attend workshops, perform at College assemblies and, participate in band tours and competitions. Through these experiences, we hope to nurture a sense of camaraderie, teamwork, community, cultural and spiritual service and a pure love of making and sharing music with others.

Students in the SAPSS ensembles have opportunities to perform in locations such as New Zealand, Tasmania, Darwin, Mt Gambier, Sydney and the Gold Coast.

Instrumental & Choral Tuition
The best way to learn a musical instrument is to receive individual tuition. As part of the St Joseph’s Regional College, a comprehensive music program, one-on-one and small group instrumental tuition are available at the College. A number of highly experienced specialist music tutors offer lessons in Piano, Singing, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, all the Brass instruments, guitar, bass guitar, percussion and drums.

For students at St Joseph’s Regional College, lessons usually take place during class time on a rotating schedule so that the same subjects are not repeatedly missed. For senior students, lessons take place before and after school, during break times and during timetabled study periods. Lesson times are arranged by the tutor in consultation with the student and the parents.

Instrument Rental
Instrumental rental is available at St Joseph’s Regional College for students involved in the Instrumental Tuition Program.

A wide range of band instruments are available for hire, including trumpet, trombone, clarinet, flute, saxophone, violin and guitar.
